SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - (Update 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020): The child who was sent to the hospital with critical injuries after a crash involving a grain truck has died.

Five people, four of them children, have died due to the accident. Everyone who died was in an SUV that struck the trailer of a grain truck that had failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office also released the names of those who died in last night’s crash. Four children died in the crash; Anaiah Brady, 10, Jeffrey Thompson III, 4, Hank Thompson, 4 months, and Mack Thompson, 1. Mack died in the hospital. 32-year-old Jessica Noel was the only adult that died in the crash.

(Update 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020): The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the grain truck involved in an accident that killed four people Friday ran a stop sign as it was going eastbound on 71 Street South.

The office also confirmed the driver of the SUV that was killed is related to the minors also killed in the crash. Police said some were siblings and children of the woman’s.

A child of the driver is at the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the grain truck was not hurt.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.

Update 7:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2020): Three children and one adult died from their injuries in a Friday afternoon crash involving an SUV and a grain truck in the intersection of 71st Street South and 263rd Street West, north of Viola in southwest Sedgwick County.

Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Hoch said the SUV was traveling south on 263rd and the grain truck was going east on 71st South.

“Those two vehicles had a violent collision in the middle of the intersection,” Hoch said. “As a result of that, we have four fatalities in the SUV.”

One adult and three child passengers died in the crash. Hoch didn’t provide ages for the children, but said they ranged in age from “small child” to grade-school age. He said the collision caused grain to spill “all over the roadway.”

While it’s not yet clear on what led up to the crash, Hoch said investigators are looking at the stop signs on the east and west sides of the intersection on 71st South.
